La Fabrique Opera, which will bring the opera to Vietnam for the first time, will also have its other talented singer, Olivier Trommenschlager, play the role Don José to Leleu’s Carmen.
Patrick Souillotl will conduct the musical ensemble, which will also consist of local performers and the young chorus, Korean Children Voice.
The opera, set in southern Spain, tells the story of the downfall of Don José, a naïve soldier who is seduced by the wiles of the fiery gypsy Carmen.
José abandons his childhood sweetheart and deserts the military, but loses Carmen's love to the glamorous toreador Escamillo, after which he kills her in a fit of jealous rage.
Georges Bizet's depictions of proletarian life, immorality and lawlessness and the tragic death of the main character on stage broke new ground in French opera and were highly controversial when it was first performed 140 years ago.
Tickets are on sale at the HBSO at VND150,000 – 800,000.
