Concert to be held to celebrate Vietnam-US ties

A concert featuring Vietnamese and American artists will be held on June 21 to mark the 20th year of the normalisation of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and the United States, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The concert will be jointly organised by the Vietnam Performing Arts Centre and the US Embassy at Thai Nguyen University of Technology in northern Thai Nguyen province.

It features Thao & Get Down Stay Down, a US-based alternative folk rock music group, which consists of vocalist and musician Thao Nguyen, organist Johanna Jessie Kunin, drummer Jason Marcus Slota and Adam Laurance Thompson on bass.

Born in Virginia, Thao Nguyen, a Vietnamese-American, began playing the guitar and writing songs at the age of twelve. She started performing in high school as part of a pop-country group.

Her album “We the Common” released in 2013 was well received by critics.
