American conductor returns to Vietnam, this time with a Grammy Award

The 53-year-old will lead the National Symphony Orchestra and Russian piano talent Ilya Rashkoskiy to perform three celebrated pieces – Piano Concerto No. 3 by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev, Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber, and Enigma Variations by English composer Edward Elgar.

Miller, born in Los Angeles, received a Grammy Award in January 2014 for Best Classical Instrumental Solo for his recording of John Corigliano’s “Conjurer” with the Albany Symphony and Scottish percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie.

He conducted Vietnam's national orchestra once in June 2010 as Vietnam and the US celebrated 15 years of normal relations.

He has been the conductor of the Albany Symphony Orchestra since 1992. He used to serve as assistant and associate conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and music director of the New York Youth Symphony.

His concert in Hanoi this time will be held at the Hanoi Opera House at 1 Trang Tien Street at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Tickets cost VND200,000 (US$9.3), VND300,000 ($14) and VND500,000 ($23) apiece.
