Three Vietnamese short films will be presented at a theater in France this weekend.

The flicks include ‘Trong Khoi Va May’ (In Smoke and Clouds) by Nguyen Trinh Thi, ‘Khi Toi 20’ (When I Was 20) by Phan Dang Di, and ‘Thanh Pho Khac’ (Another City) by Pham Ngoc Lan.

The three will be screened at La Clef Theater in Paris on April 16, according to Yda Cine Club, a film club dedicated to Vietnamese cinema based in France.

‘Khi Toi 20,’ produced in 2005, was the only Vietnamese film selected to join the Venice Film Festival in 2008.

The 20-minute flick tells the story of a young girl who wants to go against traditional values, but later changes her mind after many failures.

‘Thanh Pho Khac’ is a 25-minute film featuring the loneliness of a group of staff living in a growing city.

The film, produced in 2014, was among the entries which competed for the Golden Bear award at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival, held from February 11 to 21 this year.

Meanwhile, ‘Trong Khoi Va May’ helped Hanoi-based director Nguyen Trinh Thi won the prize for Best Emerging Artist Using Digital/Video at the Prudential Eye Awards 2016.

The screenings will also include an exchange with Thi and Di, centered on ‘Vietnamese Independent Films.’
